Salzburg Metro
A metrosystem for the City of Salzburg
Salzburg is a historically grown city and still very small (overall population in the area of about 220,000). I decided to design a metro system for the town.
This image shows only Underground Lines (1, 2, 3)

Line 1 - City and Circle Line (London model) + Hauptbahnhof – main railway station
+  – regional trains connecting with underground
+  – old part of the town – tourism station
+  – hospital
+  – school
+  – connecting regional railways
+  – connecting residential areas
+  – residential zone

Line 2 - West – East Line+ Wals-Siezenheim – residential – commercial area
+

+  - connecting regional overground trains
+  – connecting regional and metro lines
+  – eastern part of the old town
+  – connecting eastbound overground transport
+  - residential area

Line 3 - North – South Line+ Grenze – german border and commercial/industrial zone
+  – residential zone
+  - Salzburg’s exhibition centre
+  – connecting local residential districts with other regional trains (northbound)
+  – residential zone
+  - main railway station and connection to various types of transportation

+  - university
+  – southern part of the town with commercial and residential zone
+  – southern border of Salzburg

One of the most important things in a city is the public transport system.
Due to my time in Madrid I became quite a fan of the local and regional public transport. So, I decided to design a metro system for the city of Salzburg, also taking the overground railway into consideration. Be aware that parts of the overground system already exists or is in construction at this moment.

At this point I have to add that I am presenting this approach with a big fat grin on my face and also knowing that Salzburg is a far to small city for having a metro system of that size. Currently Salzburg has approximately 150.000 inhabitants, Madrid, when opening their metro system at the beginning of the 20th century had an overall population of about 825.000 inhabitants (this was in the year 1919).

However, my Metroplan involves the creation of three Lines(Line 1 – Circle Line, Line 2 – the East-West Line, Line 3 – the North to South Line). I started with a piece of paper and a map of the city, drawing underground tunnels where I thought they would belong. Actually the drawing was supposed to pass me some time on a rainy sunday, but I ended up with a complete illustration at the end of that day! I finished a first schematic plan, saved and pushed the project away for a few weeks to revise it after a certain period of time… It was still great. I made a few changes and here it is!
