PINK (in relation)

PINK (in relation) is a 2021 collection of two paintings that largely focus on the color PINK. When I thought of the theme, I knew I wanted to show two very distinct pieces that would place the color in two different hue contexts. One cool and one warm.

They are both recreations of artist's paintings — done to better understand their techniques and execution. The original paintings are Untitled (2009) by Yue Minjun & Untitled (2014) by Salman Khoshroo, respectively.
UNTITLED (2009) — YUE MINJUN
This is one of my favorite pieces by the Chinese artist. My recreation is quite similar except for a couple of intentional choices. The original has a muted pastel blue background with clouds and text written in Mandarin. I went for a highly saturated electric blue background and translated the text to Hindi, my native language.

UNTITLED (2014) — SALMAN KHOSHROO
This is one of Salman's pieces that immediately caught my eye. It looked so complex yet so effortless. The process of painting itself was extremely difficult. The amount of distinct shades of acrylic paint I had to make was overwhelming. Almost every plane of the head required completely unique colors that were never used again. This made it quite challenging.
