Angels & Fairies of Pakistan Sweet Homes
Social Media Campaign
Angels and Fairies of Pakistan Sweet Homes (PSH) is a social media campaign designed to introduce to the donors, sponsors, and potentials the personalities of the children at PSH. The campaign was shot after a full day's of interaction and getting to know the children at Pakistan Sweet Homes. Their aspirations for the future and the friendships they share at PSH was made the center focus. This campaign consists of a total of ten interviews, three in video format and the others summarized in captions to posts.
My name is Basit and I study in class four. My best friend is Zain and I have been here for five years now. After my father passed away, my ammi decided that she would send me to Pakistan Sweet Homes. Back then, I was in class one. Now, I have been living here and I enjoy this place a lot. My favorite dish is chicken karahi. I love food specially dishes that have chicken in them. I could eat them all day. I want to be a teacher when I grow up. I will teach science because it is the subject that I like the most. I get confused a lot with number so my least favorite has to be maths. My father taught me how to count from one to ten when I was little, but I would always forget the number seven and jump straight to 8. I have gotten much better at math since then and if my father was still alive, he would be proud to see me count so quickly.
My name is Zain ul Abideen. I’m in class four. I want to be an army officer when I grow up to protect my country. My best friend here is Basit. I’ve been here for three years and we have been best friends since the first day I came to Pakistan Sweet Homes. My favourite thing to do is to play cricket. I’m pretty good at it and we have a really great cricket ground so I spend a lot of time there. I hope army officers get enough free time for cricket because I like it so much that I could play it all day. I love the army. I’ve been interested in it ever since I was a little boy. I love their uniforms and how they march. They’re also very brave, they protect us and always look like they aren’t afraid of anything. My father was like that and I want to be just like him and those soldiers when I grow up.
My name is Ali Bahadur and I am a student of fourth grade. I am from Kashmir. My mother sent me here after my father died in an earthquake in 2005 and now, I go to school here every day. My favorite sport is cricket. However, I also play football occasionally but mostly I like to play cricket. I have a lot of best friends including Basit and Zain. I love all my friends. They are like a family to me. I also love telling jokes and making people laugh around me. I want to be a doctor when I grow up and help others become strong and happy. When the earthquake hit my village, lots of people were injured and left stranded. I want to be able to help people like them. It has become my dream now. My mother will be so happy to see me become a doctor. Even now, when I go home to visit her, she always tells how proud she is of me.
My name is Rabiya. I came here after my father passed away from an illness and my mom sent me here to study. I used to be in class one but I started from nursery once I got here, now I’m in class four. My best friend is Mahnoor. We have a lot of fun playing and talking every day. We play a lot of sports like cricket and football. I didn’t have many friends where I lived before so I couldn’t do any of these activities. So, I’m very happy that my mom found this place and sent me here. I love studying and my favourite subject is English. I have everything I want and thanks to this place I can study hard and grow up to help people just like Papa Jani does. When I grow up I want to join the army and protect my country.
My favorite thing about Pakistan Sweet Homes is all the sports we have here. Our ground is really big, so I get to play different games all the time. I hope to make it into the football team this year. When I came here after my parents passed away in an earthquake, I didn’t have many friends. I used to play cricket in my gali with the other boys all the time and I did the same here and that is how I made many new friends. They play football with me now too. I don’t enjoy studies too much because I like to be outside, but our teacher makes sure we don’t miss any homework. My favorite subject is science and I want to be a fighter pilot when I grow up. I will fly my plane all over the entire world. I even have a best friend now. His name is Arsalan. Him and I, both, want to be fighter pilots. Although, I’m sure my plane is going to be faster than his.
My name is Saifullah and I am 7 years old. I came to Pakistan Sweet Homes 2 years ago after both my parents died in a car crash. At first, I was so scared between all these new people but after a while this place started to feel like home. Everyone here is now my family. I have so many friends now more than I ever had before. I love to play cricket. Me and my friends play cricket every day and it makes me so happy. I want to be in the army when I grow up so I can fight for my country. My favorite subject is English, and I love to read stories. I have so many friends and they all help me with my homework. At night I narrate different stories to them. My mother used to tell me stories before bed too. Among the different stories that she told me, my favorite is the story about the thirsty crow. When I grow up, I want to be smart and intelligent too.
My name is Jahanzeb and I am 8 years old. My mother sent me to Pakistan Sweet Homes after my father passed away. She decided this would be the best for me as I would get to study and play with other children my age. I used to miss her a lot when I first came here but now, I enjoy the company of my friends equally. I get to visit my mother often too, so I no longer miss her as much. I love coloring and painting. Once, when I was small, my father brought me a few color pencils and I filled up the empty spaces in between the lines of an old newspaper. I don’t know why they make newspapers soo colorless and boring. My favorite thing to color in is my superhero coloring book. I think I like spiderman the most because he jumps off of buildings to save people. I want to be a superhero too when I grow up.
I was brought to Pakistan Sweet Homes after both my parents passed away in an accident when I was only a baby, so I don’t remember much. I have a khala who I go to visit often, she is very nice to me, but I have no friends at her house. I like it better here since I have all my friends. My best friend is Ayesha. We’re together all day. In the break period when we play baraf-paani, we always run to each other first to tap paani. We both like the same subjects so we sit together in class too, but our teacher sometimes makes us sit separately because we talk too much. I want to become a doctor when I grow up. Doctors help save people’s lives and they take care of other people too. That is something I want to do as well. All my patients will be very happy and will recover from their sicknesses quickly. That’s how great of a doctor I will be.
When I first came here, I had a hard time making friends. I was a little shy and didn’t feel like talking. I would miss my parents too but after a while, I made lots of friends here. After my father passed away and my mother and I were at a jail, I met Papa jani and he brought me here. My life at Pakistan Sweet Homes is a lot of fun and I feel very happy being surrounded by my friends. When I grow up, I want to join the army and fight for my country. I love studying as well and my teachers say that I’m a bright student. But it was hard for me to catch up with the class initially since I had very little knowledge before. We never had enough for me to be able to go to school, so I stayed at home to help my mother out with chores. I get to go to school now, I have amazing friends around me, and I know I can fulfill my dream of joining the army
I came to Pakistan Sweet Homes almost one year ago. After my father passed away, my Ammi didn’t have enough money to take care of me or send me to a school. She tried her best to not make me feel the absence of my father but with each passing day, things seemed to be getting harder for us. After a while, my mother decided she would send me here. I was really excited because I knew I would get to go to school. I go home sometimes to visit my mother, but this place feels like home too. All my friends are here, and we play together and eat together as well. They all want to be different things when they grow up, but I have always wanted to be a teacher. Our teachers here are very nice and make everything interesting for us. I want to be a great teacher like them and help other children learn science and maths. I think that would make my mother very proud.
