Autumn Couture - Bangalore Fashion Week

AUTUMN COUTURE
PRESENTED AT BANGALORE FASHION WEEK 2019
The goal of this project was to create a couture piece while bringing in a few elements of an Indian sari.
A sari is a women's garment from Indian Subcontinent that consists of an unstitched drape varying from 4.5 to 9 metres in length and 600 to 1,200 millimetres in breadth that is typically wrapped around the waist, with one end draped over the shoulder, partly baring the midriff.
The theme i chose for this project is based on Maple leaves in Autumn/Fall and the various hues of the season. Below is the mood board i created including silhouettes.
Below is the rough illustration of the outfit i wanted to create. The silhouette and colours are inspired by the theme autumn.
Below is the final look of the outfit. The leaves behind the outfit represents the Pallu in a sari while the shape of the bodice is inspired by the structure of a maple leaf. The main fabric used in this outfit is silk which is something commonly used in a sari.
This was the very first professional fashion show i participated in hence it taught me alot about the whole process of fashion design and how much care and effort goes into creating couture. This ensemble was presented at Bangalore fashion week 2019 and there couldn't be a bigger achievement for a design student. The whole experience from sketching & sourcing to fittings and watching it go on the ramp is something i will never forget.
