90s Type Design- Taylor Swift 1989 Jewelcase

90s TYPE DESIGN
For this project, I designed a CD Jewel case inspired by 90's type/design. I combined photos and specific type to convey my interpretation of Taylor Swift's 1989 album. I explored different concepts of design through exploring type, learning how to use fonts, typefaces, spacing, color, and orientation to convey a specific vibe/message/feeling to the viewer.

Front Cover
For the cover, I played with different typefaces, alternating between bold and script. I overlapped some of the words and spaced the letters in funky ways, and all of the letters are different transparencies. The cover is a lot to look at, but I think it communicates strong elegance and boldness. I used a Photoshop brush to add the sparkle effect.

BACK OF BOOKLET
For this design, I went for a dreamy, mysterious, romantic vibe. I spelled out "wildest dreams" across the design, again varying transparencies and blue shades and spacing. I altered the vibrancy and saturation of the original photo to bring out more blue/green tones and highlight the sparkle texture. I also added a fog texture to the bottom and sides with a Photoshop brush. The fonts I chose are very simple, but bold. Yet there is still a level of understatement to them as well.

INSIDE TRAYCARD
I designed the traycard to contrast the actual CD design to add the the overwhelming sense of emotion/color. I added different filters and adjustment layers to the original photo, making the shadows dark black and the highlights bright blue. I added the sparkle texture using a Photoshop brush. The type is partially illegible in a blocky, typewriter font.

CD DESIGN
Again the CD design contrasts the traycard with its blue tones. I made the text on this design legible and more structured. The words and the overall theme of the CD design communicate romance, femininity, and elegance, which is how I interpreted the music of the album. I created a mask to crop the photo and type to the format of the CD, which I created in Illustrator. I cut off part of the photo to make a specific space for the text.
BACK COVER
The back cover has various letters with different transparencies and fonts all around. The list of songs is blended into the overall design with varying spaces between the letters. I blended the list into the design using a blending mode. The background are duplicates of the same photo overlapping one another. The saturation highlight the gold colors and the sparkles of the photo. I like this design because of the color scheme and the texture. Like the other designs, it's a lot to look at.
