Art medal - World War I

A Steel Art Medal to Commemorate the First World War
An art medal that is unconventional with regards to it's construction;  milled steel not cast metal.  The intention of the piece is to be brutal and avoid sentimentality;make no excuses for the horror that war really is.
The First World War introduced mass manufacture of machinery to the mix, tanks, artillery, hand weapons and biological warfare.  All creations of man, our minds and bodies being the greatest tools of destruction.
The Obverse
The Reverse
A nailed foot, referencing cruxifiction  is a simple image representing self sacrifice.
Again modelled in wax and cast off into plaster for scanning.  Finished with chaser work.
