In 2013, I had the great opportunity to collaborate with Mercedes and KTLA 5 network on a very unique art car project. Their premise was to seek out a Los Angeles based artist and have (him/her) express how they saw the city of L.A. through their artistic style on the all-new Mercedes CLA as the canvas. The campaign was titled "How do you CLA". Being chosen for the project, my theme for the car was to take my appreciation for tattoo and street art culture and express it all in sharpie marker. Only thing was, we had to protect the original paint and be more time efficient, so the sharpie art work was hand drawn on paper then scanned, then vectorized in illustrator, where I enlarged it to 1:1 scale to be printed on vinyl and wrapped onto the CLA. The car made its debut at the Greek Theatre and I did a 60 second commercial which aired on KTLA 5 for 3 months. My concept proposal to Mercedes.
The artwork that would all go on the car hand drawn in sharpie.
Scaling the artwork 1:1 onto the car for placement and fitment check.
I measured each surface and scaled to full scale in photoshop for accurate placement and fitment.
Car staged for recording the wrap process for commercial.
