Harold Washington College 2022
These are 2022 graphic design projects I've created for my course at Harold Washington College in Chicago.
Typographic Poster
In this project, we were instructed to choose a designer from a list provided by our professor. With this in mind, we were told to design a poster for a made-up event that was featuring the work of the designer of our choice. This poster had to embody this designer's work style as well as incorporate a bit of our own. The designer I choose was Yusaku Kamekura. I made a poster of one of my favorite video games known as Earthbound from the Mother series by Nintendo.

Applications Used: Procreate, Illustrator & Photoshop
Double Letterforms, Single Letterforms & Word/Play
In my time at Harold Washington College, we played around with letters, fonts & typography. Presented above are double letter forms that I made by having 2 letters, each of those letters having a different font. For our assignment, we had to have them interact in a way that it was legible and pleasing to look at in order to grow a better understanding of the different font styles and placements.

Applications Used: Illustrator
These above are single letter forms I created. I was instructed to use only one letter with a font style of my choosing to scale up within a 6x6 canvas to understand negative spaces and their impact on designs.

Applications Used: Illustrator
After several typographic exercises, other assignments included word-playing. What you see above are manipulated words to evoke the feeling of their meaning. We were instructed to make a list of words we could "word-play" with, choosing 2 different font styles to place them under. For our final exercise, I was instructed to choose 2 words and create 3 different design variations, one being the manipulation of letters only, the second being the inclusion of shapes with the words, and lastly an illustration showing the meaning of the word.

Applications Used: Illustrator, Photoshop & Procreate
What you see above is a final project involving word-play. I was instructed to pick two words and place them in a canvas together to create a word-play visual. We focused on precise placements of boxes to create letter forms. I was also instructed to use color for each word including the background, needing 2 design variations at the end of it all. I choose the words ACID and DRUG.

Applications Used: Illustrator

Poetry Layouts
As we progressed and learned more about design and typography, we were instructed to design layouts for student's submitted poetry at Harold Washington College. We were limited to 2 font uses and color. I had the opportunity to design Elisha Soberal's poem, Sway With Me.

Applications Used: InDesign, Photoshop
IIT Brochure
One of our final projects included designing a made up brochure for IIT McCormick Tribune Campus Center. Certain rules were to stick with 1-2 font styles and we were only allowed to use images that were provided by the professor. I approached this project by manipulating images with colors based on the campus center, trying to emulate a modern approach using the font Helvetica.
