The aim of this project was to create a set of card/poster designs of my favourite basketball players highlighting their achievements and symbolising their energy.
Firstly, I began looking at some contextual sources of designers work I liked and picked out key elements and points I wanted to implement into my work. This is Jason Drumheller.
Here are some rough sketches I made to plan and inform my composition and then transfer to photoshop. Bearing in mind that I knew what imagery I was going to use of the players so this was just to experiment with layout and where things would go.
These were my first two rough mock ups, experimenting with different images and composition. I was playing around with different features to see what I would include in my later more refined and detailed designs.
I began to make more detailed designs focusing on colour theory and using different typography. As well as including words/images which symbolise the players style and achievements. e.g. crown on lebron as he as known as 'king james'.
More mock ups of designs focusing on colour theory and layering of images. I included a design which was purely black and white to add more variety to the cards. One key feature I tried to included was the players signature to the cards a 'collectors item' kind of feel.
I then started to make patterns on photoshop and illustrator for the backs of the cards, these are rough ideas and I doubt I will use them but it was just for experimenting and I may choose to use the techniques just with different images. This is about how far I have got with my card project but the next steps are to finalise the player designs and back of the cards as well as designing the packaging they will come in.
Here is a mini essay of an evaluation of my final outcome for a digital collage project. (Not related to the project above)
