I began with an idea and a simple sketch while on my lunch break from work. I was heavily inspired by Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa, and wanted to try something more challenging in Adobe Illustrator.

In Illustrator, I used the sketch as a guide and began building the image. I had never attempted something like this before, so it was a mix of trial and error, and looking for tutorials on techniques.

There is plenty of detail in the piece. I wanted to experiment with how deep I could go into one design. This was certainly one of the most enjoyable exercises i've done in a very long time!

The final piece was compiled using Adobe Photoshop. With a hi-resolution image of woodgrain, I layered the image to create the final poster.
