Esports One - E1 Fantasy
Fantasy Esports Platform (2018-2022)
In 2018, Esports One launched E1 Fantasy, an all-in-one fantasy esports platform. We leveraged cutting edge computer vision and a database of historical esports data to provide live fantasy esports for Riot Games' League of Legends. We supported four regions and various play modes that could change weekly. Players could challenge their friends or compete against the E1 Fantasy community. I worked closely with the Head of Product to design a platform that felt authentic to esports, rather than a reskinned traditional sports platform.
E1 Fantasy provided players with complete seasonal stats for all active professional players across four regions. It was vital to make these stats accessible and sortable to an audience that might not be accustomed to fantasy gameplay.
E1 Fantasy leveraged charts and graphs to make dense stats and gameplay metrics accessible to players of all skill levels. We placed sorting and filtering contextually to allow players to scan pro player information, without the need for overly complex menu structures.
We created a system of contextual modals that would allow players to remain keyed into the live scoring pages as matches played out. We ensured clean, pronounced calls to action and simple onboarding.
As players finished their weekly contests, they were awarded with rankings. I designed the rank progression to resemble a shield transitioning into a mech, mirroring the players' journey of cautious early play to aggressive and bold gameplay.
Each pro League of Legends season culminated with Worlds, the premiere esports tournament. We supported the tournament with special themes and features that let players track the action without having to leave the platform.
Designing E1 Fantasy alongside the talented product and stats teams at Esports One was a challenging but rewarding experience. We engaged in countless hours of community outreach to ensure our features were of the upmost value to players and provided a memorable and seamless experience.
