How I repurposed the assets from one 3D illustration for use in another
This CGI illustration started life as a cover for a magazine published by IBM as shown in the lower image. The art director wanted something that symbolized repurposing a "vintage" type of technology for modern day usage hence the classic 1959 Cadillac with wings flying through the air. A few years later I was asked by another art director from another company to do a CGI illustration for a science fiction novel that was being published by a well known thriller and romance novelist under a pseudonym. I modeled the body of the flying "pod" car entirely with sub-patch modeling in LightWave 3D. The city was reused but modified in some areas to look more futuristic. The camera angle was the same as in the flying Caddy piece but I added more dramatic lighting, effects and color scheme.
