Because of COVID-19 pandamic, it is clear that the process of digital meeting has been accelerated.We've never used Zoom as often as we do now, but what does the future of digital meeting look like? Are there still many possibilities for digital meeting that we have overlooked?
Through futurological methodology, the author has explored three realizable futures for digital meeting. They are: Digital Meeting Games, Conference Agent and Meeting Mood Sensor.
Future Scope
With the help of futurological methodology like Future Scope , Futures Cone or Futures Wheel, we can explore different possibilities of the future.
However, it is important to state that all future possibilities are not the same as a prediction of the future, but only a future to be realised. Moreover, the following three futures are not causally related to each other and may not be established simultaneously. They are separate and independent futures.
Future 1:Digital Meeting Games
The Digital Meeting Game is an alternative to the icebreaker game found in traditional offline meetings. It can improve the meeting atmosphere and break down the barriers between meeting members.
In a traditional digital meeting, it is difficult for members to get to know each other as quickly as in an offline meeting with the help of many icebreaker games. This essential part of the meeting is often skipped and leads to poor communication afterwards.
The inclusion of digital games in digital meetings is a logical solution. The digital meeting platform can provide light entertainment and short time digital games to bring unexpected fun to the meeting for the attendees.
Future 2:Conference Agent
Conference Agent is a plug-in that assists meeting members in increasing their participation in conferences.It allows attendees to better integrate into the current meeting etiquette, but also to focus on other things.
In the digital workplace, represented by the 'digital nomad', working on more than one thing at a time is the new normal. Many members of the digital meeting only need to be present and listen, not deeply involved. But this status quo is clearly incompatible with the current meeting culture.
"Conference Agent" can attend meetings in front of the screen instead of you. It allows you to appear more focused on the meeting itself. In the further future, it could even help attendees introduce themselves or simply answer questions.
Future 3:Meeting Mood Sensor
The Meeting Mood Sensor is an algorithm that detects the mood and state of the attendees. It allows the meeting organizer to better control the atmosphere of the meeting.
In a traditional meeting, the meeting organiser relies on his or her own observations to determine the state of the participants and to decide how to adjust the pace of the meeting.
But in a digital meeting, many members are invisible because of the limited window. Also in digital meetings, the moods and states of the participants are more difficult to convey. Therefore, an algorithm to detect the moods and states of the participants is a viable solution.
