NEOBASA
39th National Games Meghalaya  Mascot Design

'Neobasa' or 'Neo' as his friends call him, is a bighearted–fun-loving clouded leopard that loves sports and games. Apart from this he is also a great nature lover and is keen to share this love for nature with others as well. He can be a very good friend and always tries to see the good in everyone. Call him a dreamer, but he wishes everyone to live in peace and harmony with each other and mother nature.

The name ‘Neobasa’ is a combination of the new (Neo) and traditional (Basa). It is derived from the scientific nomenclature of the clouded leopard ‘Neofelis nebulosa’. Basa is taken from ‘Labasa’ which in the Khasi folklore is a creature (similar to a tiger/leopard) that protects the sacred groves, ecology & culture. Also, Basa or Bsa (in Khasi) also means to provide and to take care.
