Pediatric Clinic [Conceptual & Schematic Phase]

Children are inquisitive. They pick and peel away at a subject by asking endless questions that only lead to more questions, which eventually take them to another related topic they will most definitely want to enquire about.
Hence, my choice to use the word PERMEABILITY as a starting point, and representing it in terms of light filtration and infiltration in a series of formal and material expreiments that touch upon layering, transparency, and density.
Because the clinic will be for children, I wanted to make the building feel like a jungle gym, playing with form and volume in the different parts of the clinic, and used a radial organisation where a path would lead the child to the heart of the labyrinth where they would be treated. The whole idea is to engage the child and have their inquisitive nature take over, and forget their fear towards going to the doctor’s.
Inside, circulation is designed to evoke a sense of loss and wonder by creating a maze like spacial distribution. Some entrances are big enough only for a child to fit through.
This space is designed exclusively for children, and those with childish enthusiasm. A shallow interactive water feature is manipulated in terms of colour, sounds, and light intensity depending on the type of hand gestures and movementds the child makes in the water with his or her hands.
