IOW 100.6 Concept Development & Idea Generation

Concept development and Idea generation
IOW 100.6
Brief Summary:
This project teaches you how to work with brands and how to conceptualize ideas that could fit a brand. Carl Jung's theory of archetypes will be presented to you and you will have to choose the one that best represents you. You will then change this archetype into a brand by creating a band. You will the design a poster for the band.

Project deliverables:
1. Choose a archetype that you are familiar with the most and then choose a name for your band keeping the archetype in mind.
2. Come up with ideas for your T-Shirt design of your brand and the execute it on A4 Fabriano in Gouache.
3. 3 Buttons that goes with your T-Shirt design executed in Gouache on Fabriano.
4. Combine the T-Shirt design and 3 buttons mounted on black board.

Design Strategy:
My first three archetype options where was explorer, lover and jester.  I ended up choosing the explorer archetype which characteristics are adventurous and escaping from boredom.  The reason I chose this archetype is because I could really relate to this archetype. So I then thought that a lot of outgoing and adventurous people listens to alternative/rock music and the first idea that popped into my head was something that had to do with the ocean. That is how I came up with the name "Barrel Rock". To surf a barrel is every surfers dream, so the name symbolises the dream of the band and what there ultimately achievement would be.

First Deliverable:
The process work below is where I decided on an archetype and name for my band. So this drawing below is the final name for my band that I came up with but this was after I explored with 2 other archetypes that is displayed in the second image. So the other 2 archetypes where love and jester. Even though I could also relate with these archetypes I did not have as much in common as with the explorer archetype. The name that I chose for my band was "Barrel Rock".
Second deliverable:
Here I started developing ideas for my final brand logo. I felt that the drawing in the middle had the most interesting composition but I still was not happy with the position of the Type and felt that it had to be placed somewhere else. I also felt that the drawing in the middle fitted the best with the band's name as it is a huge barrel behind the band performing creating an adventurous feeling.
Here I did little colour mock ups to see which colours would work. I felt that the warm and cold colours really worked well together and drawing on the far right was a little version of what the final T-Shirt design would look like.
Third deliverable:
I experimented by using different colours for different buttons to see which would fit best with the final T-Shirt design. As seen in these buttons I chose the colours that looks the same as on the T-Shirt design so that they create a interesting an appealing composition together.  On the button where there is a person surfing in the barrel, I thought was a good idea because it contributes to the archetype which is explorer.  The buttons in the middle is just a zoomed in illustration of one of the band members playing their instrument.  For the first button on the left, I used quite an alternative font as it is a big trend in the alternative rock industry.  The 3 buttons that I just explained are the 3 buttons that I chose.
Fourth deliverable:
This is my final with the buttons and T-shirt design together
