"FASHION MEET FLORA"

 

          This project uses the stylistic conventions of fashion and beauty photography to explore the relationship between the human and natural worlds. In my photographs, figures intersect and interact with elements of flowers and plants. While I try to make this combination visually pleasing, it is not my intent that the images be strictly decorative. While I was shooting with my models, I already envisioned the final images in mind. I found that really helps me to determine the right makeup, hairstyle and clothing that would fit with specific nature imagery.

          Since our relationship with nature--symbolized here by plant forms--ranges from happy to fearful, some of the images have a fresh, pastel quality, while others are dark and moody. In either case, my hope is to create an ethereal character that encourages the viewer to consider his or her own relationship with nature. In this way, I want to suggest that beauty exists in all realms of life.
