Simon Roberts
This project is called 'weeds and wilderness'. in reaction the the decline of ancient woodland in the UK, Simon Roberts decided to document ancient woodland in the UK.
this project called 'Weeds and Wilderness' is the result. Most of the images appear to be taken early in the morning as they appear misty and damp. I feel like this relates directly to my work as I have been working and photographing in ancient woodland. I also feel like the images in this series has a very moody mystical feel, particular with the shapes of the trees.
I think that this is my favourite of the images featured here. I think that it is my favourite because it is quite green, and it reminds me of some of the locations on Benthal edge, where a large number of photographs have been taken. I also like how the curved, snake like branches enter the frame on the one side before leaving it on the other.
Although I don't particularly like landscape images in woodland because the trees can get lost in the height of the image, I feel like combined with the dark background adds to the appeal of these images, leaving some mystical elements to them.
I have found this project relay inspirational so I have decided to reproduce his contact sheets here. More information can be found about this project on his website https://www.simoncroberts.com/work/the-weeds-and-the-wilderness/
