Recce trip: 11/10/21
Since my theme for the Sony brief is my connection with nature I decided to take my usual walk to find possible locations for the shoot. During the walk I wanted to find certain spots I found visually interesting so that I would have good shots for the final outcome. Fortunately we were having sunny weather at the time which made for good lighting, this meant my test shots came out well. Overall I found 9 different locations during this recce, some of them are quite similar but this has given me options when I go to do the shoot.

Formative presentation:
Formative:
For the formative assessment I received good feedback overall, people understood my theme and why I chose it. However one of the main critiques was that it was a bit too broad which I agreed with but I struggled to find a solution to the problem. After talking with tutors I decided for the project to literally show my journey with some blurry shots while I’m walking and some of an interesting location I would usually stop to look at. This helped me have a clearer idea of what my final outcome would look like and gave me a good idea of what exactly to shoot.

1st shoot:
For the first shoot I took my usual walk, during the walk I took photos randomly while I was walking most of the time not even looking into the viewfinder. I did this to show my journey and to create blurry shoots. I also stopped to take shots of interesting places like trees and ponds. My favourite spot is one of the ponds that has a tree on the edge and you can always see the reflection of the tree in it. I like this spot because I always get really nice shots of it. Overall I got many shots that I was happy with and can see my project coming together.

2nd shoot:
After sharing some of the shoots I got from the first shoot with tutors I received good feedback saying my shots looked good so far. They also said that the shots of my foot while I was walking were interesting, so on this shoot I decided to take more. Although I was happy to take more of the shots I actually found it quite difficult to get the shot to look how I wanted it to. After reviewing the photos I feel as though I got some foot shots I’m happy with and some look quite abstract which could be an interesting approach to my project. I also got many detail shots that I’m happy with and plan on going on one more shoot to focus on detailed shots.

3rd shoot:
For this shoot I decided to focus on details so I could produce some slightly different images to what I had before. The weather was overcast and the sky was grey but I really enjoyed this atmosphere as it gave my images a slightly moody feel. I really enjoyed this shoot as I like taking detailed shots of nature. Overall the images came out nicely and there are some specific shots I’m really happy with. I can now see my project coming together.

Sequencing:
Once I had completed all my shoots I began to edit down the photos. I created two categories, one for the shots that showed my journey and another for the shots where I had stopped to appreciate the landscape. Once I decided what landscape shots to go with I then used those images and the 10 best journey ones to create a sequence. This process helped me to edit down my images even more and I was able to create a sequence of 10 images that I’m happy with and that I feel show my journey.
Upon further consideration I decided the 9th image looked out of place and too similar to the second image so I removed it to make my final sequence 9 images. I also discussed my image selection with my tutor and he had a go at sequencing them too so we could compare. Overall I preferred the sequence my tutor came up with as I feel like it shows my journey really well and have decided to use this as my final selection.
