Amber Hotel Katong 安珀大旅店(加东)

A bespoke coffee table book was produced to document the rich history of a hotel based in Katong, Singapore. The objective of the editorial was to provide an in-depth look into the hotel's inception, evolution, behind-the-scenes operations, antique furnishings and interiors, and the traditional shop-house architecture that is now surrounded by modern high-rise buildings.

The project held significant sentimental value to the client, who is the son of the hotel owner. In the publication, he generously shared a comprehensive collection of historic items such as floor plans, bank, and telephone line contracts, newspaper notices, name cards, hotel reviews, and an array of stunning photographs.

Project Type: Print, Editorial
Design Agency: Method Media Pte Ltd
Year: 2021
The primary challenge of this project was the lack of a cohesive brand deck for Amber Hotel, and the utilisation of different fonts for the logos on both of its buildings. However, it is precisely this inconsistency that embodies the hotel's essence, evoking nostalgia and capturing the attention of viewers. In an effort to pique visual interest, elements such as Chinese antique chairs, marbled table textures, and old metal unit and door numbers were selectively incorporated into the design.
