Nina Simoneaux's profile

Overheard, New York

Over 8 million people live in New York City; it is easy to forget that all of these people have separate existences. For "Overheard, New York", quickly passing conversations were documented. These included statements often ignored or quickly forgotten. Nothing dramatic or memorable happens, so the experience is not generally not cataloged.

By forcing myself to notice the small actions of people, I felt like I was getting a peek into the real, raw life of another person. The documented conversations and statements were then reinserted into the urban environment through typographic installations. This was done using a projector and photographed by observers with whatever was at hand, usually a cell phone. By viewing the projections, these conversations are again "overheard".
