The Nokia Corporation was one of the world’s leading brands in the mobile and telecommunications market. Nokia still produces mobile phones, network infrastructure and other related services globally. Founded in 1865 in Finland, Nokia was the first to achieve many milestones in the mobile and telecommunication industry such as being the first to provide portable phones with cellular network, support data and 3G. These achievements have defined Nokia as an innovative, iconic brand. By the late 2000s however, Nokia was unable to compete with new and emerging competitors.

Nokia, however, still has an enormous potential - especially if it enters a new market of developing countries, specifically the continent of Africa. This study includes a research proposal and a case study of Nokia: its rise to dominance in the 1990s and its demise in the 2000s. New research into the African market and consumer behaviors are explored and new corporate strategy is outlined here.
