WE CUT THE CABLES (2019)

The flag was printed as a commission by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina (Novi Sad, Serbia) for the exhibition that deals with complex issues and experiences of working as a female artist in new media. The exhibition is organized by Multimedia platform for female culture, activism and theory K.A.T. and supported by European Union program Creative Europe, Ministry of Culture (Serbia), City Council for Culture and other cultural organizations.

"We Cut the Cables" is an exhibition that deals with the position of new- and post-media art from the perspective of female artists. The exhibition is conceptual; it describes the position of women artists who, due to the technological specificity of their practice, cannot always exhibit and finance work, thereby highlighting the complexity of the requirements for such a practice, and offering the opportunity to present new media art in a different way. Unrestricted by the usual technical requirements dominant for this practice, artists are given the format - flag and theme - to display the symbol, work, or process that defines their way of working. In this way, the artists problematize not only their personal expression, but also the obstacles gone through during production (technical, financial) as well as during the exhibition process (visibility, systemic/curatorial/media support).
