Transnet Heritage Day

We were tasked to develop a Heritage Day campaign that would go out internally at Transnet to get the employees excited. With stereotype undertones already experienced daily, Heritage Day explicitly – though unintentionally – reveals the “divides” within the South African rainbow nation.

So we gave Heritage Day a new meaning by highlighting and celebrating
the things we share/have in common that form part of our heritage as South Africans.
Things like music, food, dance, historic sites and language. In light of this, we also
educate people on the many cultures we have in South Africa.

We wanted to highlight these elements in order to help people realise that heritage isn’t only about traditional attire, but can also be about everyday language, music, dance that we have inherited/adopted that make us South African. We developed “You know you’re South African when…” content about uniquely South African behaviour or values that we can all relate to and should be celebrated, as they form part of who we are.
