STREAMLINER HOUSE concept 2020
A commissioned project for a rental house anchored on a defunct military observation bunker overlooking the Liberec area in Northern Czechia:
On client's request the styling was to follow the 20th century streamline moderne movement, laced with a 50s space age architecture.
His vision in particular was the one of a flying saucer-like structure perched on the hill, rooted into the concrete roof of the defunct cold-war era bunker:
Eventually the house gained a rather nautical theme, more in the style of a Philippe Starck yacht fused with a nordic, wood-clad house, which didn't actually land too far from the innitial vision of a streamlined, dynamic-looking, industrial house-structure.
A clear view from the house was a key characteristic to keep, since the location was so advantageously chosen by the former military for just that purpose. Therefore the outstretching long porch and tall windows, positioned to give a 200° view of the Liberec region.
In the sketches different sizes were played with, leading me to an exercise of finding the smallest viable version of the house, as seen on the left-hand sketch. Personally, I love the crane idea for lifting up goods from the ground up "aboard". The second sketch reveals how the interior layout was conceived.
Given that the nature of the structure was primarily a rental vacation house, the interior was layed out more as a hotel suite, with all the space, comfort and storage a pair of guests might need for a long, restful weekend.
I also wanted to include the possibility of the structure serving as a great "writing house"; a place where a creative individual might retreat to put his thoughts to work:
Main entrance, not visible in the models is in the form of a hatch in the rear section with steps built into the cable-operated door.
Eventually a second concept study was needed with a more thorough look into the construction.
