Bio-Grow - A Biodegradable and Sustainable Ecosystem

Bio-Grow is a product that not only sustains nature, but is sustainable in nature. A biodegradable greenhouse planter inspired by organic forms and exploring how we can use materiality and obselence to benefit the environment instead of causing it harm. It encapsulates the essence of life in a simple and perfectly sustainable manner,  looking into how we can regenerate both nature and material as a future concept. The cradle to cradle aspect of this product utilises the idea of using one element to give to another, creating a biologically sound atmosphere for cultivating plants, from season to season, all year round.

How it works:

1) Seeds are planted in the bamboo pulp planter
2) This is then attached to the top Biopol greenhouse section to provide protection for the plant
3) It is then either kept inside for the winter months or placed in the garden
4) During spring it can then be hung outside to obtain sunlight and rainwater
5) Once the plant has grown and is ready to be planted outside, the bamboo pulp planter can simply be removed and planted complete with plant as a whole unit in the garden
6) The planter will then undergo a degradation process due to the soil and environmental which will take approximately 45-60 days, providing the plant with a natural compost and giving the materials nutrients back to the earth
Cross-section illustration of how the plants needs are fulfilled through use of the product

1) The plant obtains air through the concealed vents
2) Sunlight is received through the transparent Biopol wall
3) Rain runs down the exterior of the product where it is caught in the concealed reservoir and moistens the coco liner
4) The plant absorbs CO2, which helps combat the initial production of the Biopol
5) The plant then releases oxygen into the atmosphere
6) Water is gradually released by the coco liner which keeps the plant regularly hydrated
7) The presence of water helps prepare the bamboo pulp for degradation, speeding up the process once buried
