The older Project splashes were one of my inspirations early on in my career so it surreal to be able to contribute to this. The idea here was to show Sylas fighting some robots. My main reference was Sylas in the Warriors MV. I also looked at some anime reference to help me get that moment before the big punch. His chain design changed during production as you can see here but most of the things remained the same.
Rendering sci-fi is super hard. I only had a top down concept art to base on and it was difficult to figure out the different angles. I used Maya to make a block mesh of his weapons. I also imported a model from Daz3D as a reference. Using 3D like this is mostly just to start things in proper perspective. In the end, I will still adjust things as I see fit. Rendering the bg was also a pain because of the details. I got carried away with the lights so good things I got a Paint over from Alex Flores to tone things down. Really like the end result!
