Stasys Eidrigevičius Centre Of Art, project winner of international architecture contest in Lithuania
On March 8, the international public open competition “Stasys Eidrigevičius Arts Centre. Reconstruction of the Cinema Building (Respublikos St. 40, Panevėžys) “challenged architects to prepare a project of an exclusive architectural public building concept that would become a representative space of professional - modern and contemporary art - a bright cultural point to exhibit multifunctionalist S. Eidrigevičius and works by other international artists. The Arts Center, planned to be implemented in two stages, will become a symbol of the city of Panevėžys, a meeting place for the community with spaces for events, creativity and children's education.Nineteen entries were submitted for the competition. The quality of the proposals was assessed by an expert commission consisting of seven members, two of whom were foreign architects. Quality evaluation criteria: urban planning; architecture and design; multifunctionality and rationality of solutions; sustainability and efficiency and "Stasys".The winners of the competition were the team of the I M P L M N T architects, which received the best evaluation from the expert commission (proposal code: 200300). The team of authors is Aurimas Syrusas, Greta Šidlauskaitė and Ričardas Bertašius. The architects of IMPLMNT architects offered a bold, but moderate and cohesive project, which subtly reveals the details characteristic of S. Eidrigevičius' work. The expert commission very positively assessed the urban integrity of the proposal, the creation of a high-quality public space with appropriate parameters in the southern part of the plot. Architecturally, the work is bold and determined. Not remaining unnoticed and not leaving indifferent, but moderate and integral. The laconic nature of the architecture and details makes it possible to control the extremely chaotic character of the area. In the first stage, it is proposed to renovate the building in principle, leaving a small part of the existing cinema structures.
