Inside the Stock Exchange

Challenge
We are living in times of unprecedented scientific achievement, in which several unimaginable events can be viewed, analysed and acted upon in less-than a second. We were commissioned by Signal | Noise to produce a print-based visualisation to visually represent captured data that occurs within this time.

Approach
'Inside the World’s Stock Exchange' is a visualisation exploring the world’s financial markets and new computerized methods that is changing the industry. We divided automation into two core subjects, summarising of the top stock exchanges and highlighting the true distinction of human vs. computer decisions.

Outcome
We found that although computers made 3x more transactions than humans, only educated high decisions of humans result in the larger ROI (Return Of Investment). Computers contribute in high-frequency trading to maintain market liquidity to predict upon, processed by algorithms at velocities too quick for the human brain to compute.
