2014 Presidential Holiday Card

Presidential Holiday Card Contest

CONCEPT DESIGN | CARD DESIGN | E-CARD DESIGN

Each year, the senior graphic design students have the opportunity to compete for the Presidential Holiday Card that is sent out from Winona State University to other university presidents and WSU alumni during the holiday season.  This year's card must incorporate the concept of eternal light and warmth, with this year's university theme, Civic Action.  For my Holiday card design and concept, I collaborated with an english student who helped me come up with a message that encompassed light + civic action + WSU.  We used light as a metaphor to tell the story of students gaining their knowledge and skills at WSU and taking them out and into the world.  The bird is a strong visual to represent students as the WSU "flame" flying out and into the world.

For my card design, I chose to do an accordian fold in order to be able to tell the story visually.  The inside of the card creates a panaramic view when it is unfolded and is meant to be a beautiful piece for recipients to place the card on a mantel as a work of art.  To assist the print card, we also were assigned to create a digital version that can be sent out to the rest of the University students and faculty as an ecard.

The Holiday Card Contest for my partner and I resulted in a second place finish.
