Wanting to try something a little more ambitious with my new Photoshop digital painting skills I decided to do some impromptu artwork for writer Jacques Nyemb's (who I was working with on his new project 'Smorgesbord Squad') recent comedy horror series 'This Bites!', about a glam rock vampire who turns a vegetarian hipster into a creature of the night. Wanting to make the poster an old school horror movie poster throwback I decided to parody a poster from the 1958 Hammer adaptation of 'Dracula' (Referance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Dracula1958poster.jpg).
First a loose sketching of the basic elements. In contrast to my finished lineart that tends to be very precise and meticulous, my loose sketches tend to be very gestural and simply serve to layout the basic composition.
Putting down base colors, deciding in this stage how exaggerated I wanted the characters to appear.
