Few companies have such a profound impact on our lives that the name enters the dictionary as a generic description for their invention. There are notable exceptions such as Biro, Hoover and Post-it, but in the audio field, Tannoy stands alone for its success and reputation for pioneering audio solutions.

We're considered an extension of the Tannoy design team, an accolade we're hugely proud of within the walls of 4c Design. With full access to the engineering departments at Tannoy, our remit often includes the design refinement of existing ranges, as well as the development of completely new product concepts.
Following a brief on the next generation of their prestige range of Kingdom Speakers, we presented concept sketches to illustrate the development and design throughout the various stages of the product upgrade.  Full CAD data was developed and supplied before proceeding to final product development.

How we did it...

Tannoy asked 4c Design to develop the next generation of their Prestige range of Kingdom speakers, which were regarded as being dated and in need of a redesign. Much of the feedback comes from the marketing and sales departments, so the brief includes a lot of their input. We presented concept sketches to illustrate how we might develop the next generation and then moved the design through CAD and ultimately the level of photorealistic render. We worked closely with the team and finalised the details and wood finishes, before releasing the CAD data to Tannoy for final production development.

Success = Playing Catchup...

To differentiate the new speakers from the original Kingdoms the product was renamed the Kingdom Royal and has been pitched at the luxury market in the Far East. This has proven such a phenomenal success that Tannoy are hardly able to make them fast enough to satisfy demand. However, perfection cannot be rushed.
