Tribal Life in Southern Ethiopia

Photojournalism
Photos of the fascinating tribal life in southern Ethiopia. The tribes of Ari, Banna, Hamer and Mursi living in the Omo Valley in Ethiopia have their own culture, rites and languages.
Two female members of the Mursi tribe in front of a stunning landscape in the early morning. One of them is wearing the lip plate, a sign of beauty for the Mursi.
Children don't wear the lip plates. Girls start in the age of around 15 years to stretch their lips and ears.

Traditional figures Konzo people put on the graves of family members: the figure on the left symbolizes the died family member (in this case a male warrior, because of the spear), the figures on the right symbolize his four women he had. In some cases there are also male on the right of the died one. These figures symbolize the persons, the died one killed in lifetime.
