These illustrations accompanied an article which explores the writer’s personal experiences of the skin picking disorder called Dermatillomania. She didn’t want the illustrations to be graphic by depicting the skin being picked or scratched. I chose to focus instead on the feelings she experiences. The feelings of pressure and release she describes in her article were translated into the concept of trapped gas particles that are heated up, causing a large explosion.
