Flume Culvert [University Project]

Flume Culvert Project
“A flume is a human-made channel for water in the form of an open declined gravity chute whose walls are raised above the surrounding terrain” - Wikipedia
“A culvert is a structure that allows water to flow under a road, railroad, trail, or similar obstruction from one side to the other.” - Wikipedia
Project Goal:
To improve the flume used in the hydraulics lab by adding two model culverts to provide additional learning for the Hydraulics students.
The parts were modeled and assembled in Solidworks. A few dimensions were added to an assembly drawing for reference in the machine shop.
Above are various photos from the milling of the face plate for the flume culverts. The circular feature that accepts the tubing was performed by programming the feature's size in the 2.5 axis mill.
The pieces were glued together after the tubing was cut to size and the face plates were milled. The culverts fit snugly in the flume and the overlap between the tube of one culvert and the face plate of the other allows the two flume culverts to be joined together to form a 18 in. long section.
