One of the few things that I think we all should be thankfull for being alive, is to get the chance to observe passionate and gifted people doing their work in front of us.
Artisans, musicians, painters (…); anyone who’s heart and soul we can see through their work.
Sergio and Massimo Boldrin are two of the people who still honor the ancient artisan craft of mask making. The brothers own La Bottega dei Mascareri, a small workshop in Venice, and did, for example, the masks used in Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut.

When wandering through Venice’s alleys, and completely unaware of who this person was back then, I could not help to find myself admiring this man working for a while.
I wanted very badly to know him, but he looked so focused into the work that I felt I was going to bother him if approaching, so instead, I took these photographs to remember that moment.

Now I know that he was Sergio Boldrin, and I’m really thankful that once I had the privilege to see him working, alone, behind a little black curtain of his small family shop.
