The former director of the Environmental Services Department of the city of San Diego, California, Mario X. Sierra recently retired after more than 30 years of municipal service. A longtime board member of the Chicano Federation of San Diego County, Bonita, CA, resident Mario X. Sierra currently serves as its board chair.

The Chicano Federation-San Diego has been providing neighborhood-based services to a diverse population of local Chicanos for over five decades through initiatives such as its Barrio Logan Child Development Center. This center offers low-cost or free childcare to young people from 3 to 5 years of age who come from low-income families. All clients must provide both proof of identification and proof of income.

The Chicano Federation Barrio Logan Child Development Center is committed to furthering child development in a learning environment that is both nurturing and inspiring. Taking a holistic approach to childcare, it addresses the cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being of each child.
