In Memory of Logan Turner

In May of 2019, Dayton, Ohio was devastated by an outbreak sequence of tornados. Parts of the downtown area, Trotwood, Beavercreek, and other locations were greatly affected. In this incident, I knew of several ways I could help my community. I volunteered to help people clear brush, donated cash, and brought multiple van-loads of groceries to drop-off locations. But on August 4 of the same year - long before we were even through rebuilding from the tornadoes - the busiest downtown area in the city, The Oregon District, suffered a mass shooting.

I was behind a window, inside of a local bar, as a bullet from an AR-15 struck the window immediately next to me. Quickly, more shots continued to be fired. I counted 5, then 10 shots which were steadily fired, like the ticking of a metronome, with no reload, and I knew he had a minimum of 15 rounds to go before he had to reload. 15 more rounds were fired, then a 16th, and I've played enough video games to know he must have a 50-100 round drum attached to his firearm. People began trampling each other as the thick crowd slowly trickled to escape out of the back entrance of the bar. The shots continued, with no interruption. I kept imagining a large colony of ants moving out of a pipe like molasses as I wondered if I was going to survive, patiently waiting for my turn to escape from the bar. In the end, I heard at least 40 shots. 10 people, including the shooter, were killed, and 17 others were injured.

I am not a lawyer, doctor, therapist, or the owner of a mortuary. In this case, nobody needed any kind of help I felt like I could provide, and I didn't know what I could possibly do to help my community or myself heal from the tragedy. But Mike Turner, the Father of one of the victims of the Oregon District shooting dealt with the loss of his only child, Logan Turner, in an interesting way. He went viral on social media by giving hugs to strangers, and #LoganHugs quickly went viral immediately after.

I'm not certain about Mike's thought process, but I imagine he wanted to use this momentum to reach out in whatever way he could to help his community heal. He helped form a nonprofit group: LovelighT Circle. The organization's mission is to use online communities to create a visible and recognizable community of those seeking to make the world a better place. They raise funds through a variety of means, 100% of the proceeds of which go toward a fund established to extend grants to organizations that are putting good works out into the world.

An associate of Mike enlisted my assistance in the creation of the brand, and I cannot thank them enough for helping me to use my skills to assist my community during a time I thought I had nothing of substance to offer. It helped my own healing process more than they know.

The logo arches upward to show uplifting, forward momentum. The L and the T were highlighted, extending rays of light, as a memorial to Logan Turner. Multiple color combinations were created, and versions without a gradient were created due to the fact not all printers can print a gradient in every application.

Images sent to me by one of the organizers of the organization's unveiling ceremony. Quite a crowd showed up to spread the love that night!
