Images That Move (Islander) - Research

Practitioners who are both photographers and filmmakers: 
Steve McQueen is a British director. He is known for directing films such as 12 years a slave and hunger as well as a lot of short films. In 2019 he undertook a photographic project called ‘Year 3’ to photograph every year 3 class in London like a traditional class photo. He did this to show us what the capital’s future will look like and to show us the next generation.
Wim Wenders is a German director and photographer. Some of the films he has directed include Paris Texas, Summer in the City and a lot of documentaries. He has worked with photographic images of desolate landscapes and themes of loss, memory, time, nostalgia and movement.
Stanley Kubrick was an American director and photographer. His most famous piece of work is A Clockwork Orange a 1971 film. He started photography in high school and then later began working as a photographer for Look magazine.
Sam Taylor-Johnson is a British filmmaker and photographer. She is known for directing Nowhere Boy. In 2000, Taylor-Johnson created a wraparound photomural around scaffolding of the London department store Selfridges while it was being restored; the mural featured 21 cultural icons.
Agnes Varda Is a Belgian born French director and photographer. Her work was central the development of the influential French new wave film movement of the 1950s and 1960s. She originally was making a living by being a photographer before moving into film however she still let her photography influence her films.
Films about islands/isolation:
As part of my research I wanted to be specific to my topic of embroidery. There are many videos of people doing embroidery on Instagram that I am able to use as inspiration.

This moodboard shows the process of stitching and also captures the work environment which is what I want to show in my film.
