Merry Go-Round – Shatin
A visual identity and its promotional design for a contemporary dance performance,
inspired by their old memories of living in Shatin, Hong Kong.

Client:DepARTure Performing Arts Studio
Service: Branding design, Chinese Typography  |  Year : 2019

Merry Go-Round – Shatin was a contemporary dance performance curated by choreographers Rex Cheng and Iris Lau from Hong Kong. This show was inspired by their old memories of living in the neighbourhood of Shatin when they were children. The client has worked with the photographer to create a set of dancing photographs for promotional use. A visual identity design and the designs of promotional items were needed.

I have created a Chinese logotype, which was inspired by the choreography in this performance, as the start of the project. To capture the jumpy movement the staccato rhythm of the dance, a lot of small dots are added to the Chinese type. Chinese red was chosen to be the main colour of the campaign as many of the photos are taken in front of the signature red wall of Shatin Che Kung Temple.
