Course Hub Taxonomy
Card Sorting
Overview
IDP's website contains information about hundreds of courses worldwide. When the first version of study abroad app was launched, the course screens were same as seen in the web browser where users had to scroll long which led to abandonment. In the second version we wanted to optimize the content on course screens by grouping them for easy access.
Research Objectives
To understand
- The most important information users look for while searching for a course
- How users would like the information to be grouped

Approach
- Open card sort
My Role
- Discussed with product owner to understand the information architecture of SP app
- Reviewed 25 content hub pages and documented the summary of content provided
- Identified groups and 24 cards to test from the above activity
- Setup an open card sort study with 35 participants in OptimalWorkshop
- Analyzed both qualitative and quantitative metrics from the tool
- Generated summary report with findings and recommendations

Duration: 3 weeks
Tools Used: OptimalWorkshop, UserTesting, MS office suite
Outcome & Impact
- Do another iteration after modifying some card labels and omitting unsorted cards to identify strong groupings
- Run a closed card sort to prioritize content within the groups and check the navigation
- Do a preference test of smaller groups vs larger groups
