Mondlo oral history

Between 1960 and 1983 over 3.5 million people were forcibly moved during the Apartheid regime. The South African Institute for Justice and Reconciliation commissioned seven posters to document this oral history, particularly the Mondlo settlement in KwaZulu Natal.

The design solution was a fusion of photojournalism and frames/ borders. Subtle hints of human interaction are introduced by "sewn" threads throughout the series.
Detail: Threads detail increments in the timeline - a reference to hand craft and recollection.
