DOMEmini LAMP MADE FROM RECYCLED PLASTIC

This project was a collaboration between !bang and PlastMakers

The story begins in Argentina. We contacted Tom of Plastmakers, from Czech Republic. They are into the Precious Plastic community, making nice products and free tutorials of how to Recycle Plastic in their Youtube channel. We asked if they want to make one of our lamps from recycled plastic sheets. We search a lot on the web and when we saw their awesome projects immediately know that they could help us with the first prototype lamp.
We set up the CNC cut files comming from our parametric DOMEmini lamp and they made a couple of Recycled Plastic Sheets for production. They found a CNC company that helped with their prototype and made the cuts. Later on they easily assembled the final lamp. It turn out great!!
We discover a new way of making lamps and the texture of the recycled sheets it's awesome! We know it's a hard process to achieve because CNC machines are not easy access as another recycling tools. On this particular material, the non used parts of the sheet cuts can be recylced again for next projects, but we loved the left-over frame for hang them on the wall as a design piece.
As a conclussion on this project, It was great working together with Plastmakers, and they respond absolutely great. A disscussion came out as a final report of the prototype and We figure that Press Moulds would be a great way to make the lamps without the CNC. This could be a nice way to produce larger quantities at a lower cost of time, energy and money, but we are still working on the Injection Moulds, to figure how much it would cost.
