Marie Curie is a famous female scientist born in 1867. She worked professionally in both chemistry and physics. Marie curie discovered not one but two elements from the periodic table. The first was Polonium, which she named after her home country Poland. The second was Radium, which made a huge impact in nuclear  science. Another accomplishment for Curie was becoming the winner of two Nobel prizes. This was quite an accomplishment for a woman in this era. Females were not rewarded the same rights as men, and were not respected in the field of science. She had to push and shove her way to the top. Because of her hard work and determination to further educate herself she went on to do amazing things. Humanitarian is another defining characteristic of Marie Curie. She worked to help aid her adopted country of France, and even helped raise money going door to door during WW1. Marie Curie was very successful in her profession of chemistry and physics. She not only helped pave the way for women’s equal rights around the world, but was also considered to have single handedly led us into the nuclear era with her work in nuclear physics.
