Illustration for an article about a special trick from tumor cells:
The DNA of every cell in the body has a region of repetitive nucleotides at the ends of linear chromosomes – so called telomeres. With each cell division, the telomeres become shorter. If they are too short, the cell can no longer divide and in most cases dies.
Tumor cells have a special trick to elongate their telomeres so they don't die.
