Criterion Collection Covers: Illustration & Animation

While studying film history, I stumbled upon some great masterpieces of Cinema from different countries. I got fascinated by the timelessness of these movies and decided to make a project on The Movements of Cinema. For more than 30 years, the Criterion Collection has been packaging classic and contemporary films as works of art that you can hold in your hand. I wanted to create character design based covers for some of my favorite films keeping in mind the aesthetics of Criterion DVD covers.
GERMAN EXPRESSIONISM : Cesare, The Somnambulist  from The Cabinet of Dr. Calighari (1920).
Animation"The miraculous Cesare who has slept day and night for 23 years without interruption. Before your very eyes, Cesare will awaken from his death-like sleep. Step right in..."
ITALIAN NEO-REALISM : Bruno Ricci from Ladri di Biciclette or Bicycle Thieves (1948).
Animation : Ricci's Misfortune, based on De Sica's Ladri di Biciclette or Bicycle Thieves (1948) .
BRITISH NEW WAVE : Arthur Seaton from Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (1960).
FRENCH NEW WAVE : Antoine Doinel from The 400 Blows (1959).

Thanks for watching!
