The Museum serves as contemporary heart of Regensburg’s historic core.

 

The Museum represents a "machine" to encourage people to appreciate the high value of such a core.

 

This project envisions a highly flexible contemporary structure that allows for a number of different uses—events, temporary exhibitions, lectures, permanent shows—of its various spaces while turning its surroundings as the main character of an urban stage where cultural and contemporary achievements that took place in Bavaria are put on stage to mark an indelible impression upon its many visitors.

The mueseum is made of white box sitting on top of a glass box shaping an atrium/galleria that provides a direct North south visual link between the various boats sailing along the Donau and the main visitor’s entry point as framed by the Kolpinghaus building on the south side. 

The building acts therefore as an urban connector between these two important features of the historic core of Regensburg. In a sense, the MdBG is a suspended metaphorical ‘inner city-boat’ whose ‘flanks’ exhibit a texture made of the little rock of the Donau, which is to say the true vital artery of the cultural heritage of the city and of Bavaria. The circular apertures carved in this homogenous field of Donau’s rocks, are located at key, strategic points along an architectural promenade that guide and accompany  visitors during their visits.
