We were tasked with creating a poster as a mock entry for a festival competition while following certain specifications stipulated in the competition brief.
Such as the colour palette, patterns and symbols that were used in the poster as well as the theme for the poster.
                                                         Poster Design

                                                          Rationale:

Above is my design and entry for the Fak'ugesi poster design competition, created using design software's GIMP and Inkscape. In this design I tried to incorporate as many elements as possible while maintaining  balance, with the focal piece being the African continent, which has a female portrait and binary code as a background, this links with hashtag "#BUILD_COZ_YOU_HAVE_TO",  which if you look at the context of the competition brief ,the poster is for an African Digital Innovation Festival, so my goal was to use the main topic of the festival to be the focal point of the poster, with the symbols being uniform, while the icons vary in positioning and occupancy, this is to give off a warm but not over powering feeling when being viewed. The binary code background is green as to give a contrast to all the bright luminating colours around it, it is also meant to symbolize African's growth, which is aligned with the hashtag, as the goal of this festival is about innovation, while global warming is an ever increasing threat, we as a society are encourage to create more environmentally friendly products to decrease our carbon footprint.
