About the game
Broken Thoughts is a serious game aimed at relatives of people suffering from Alzheimers disease. In the game, you control Olaf, a sweet old man struggling to deal with his condition. Each level of the game was designed to reflect a symptom of the disease starting with the most common ones like forgetfulness and advancing to more severe symptoms like losing track of time and dementia.
Point and click adventure
It is a point & click game where you control Olaf, a sweet old man struggling to deal with his condition. Each level of the game contain puzzles designed to reflect a symptom of the disease starting with the most common ones like forgetfulness and advancing to more severe symptoms like losing track of time and dementia. Storytelling and visual narrative were core to the game creating a powerful and emotional experience.
Involvement
This time around we decided to try something new by using 3D graphics but at the same time keeping it inside our own limits by choosing a simpler style of gameplay with P&C. As usual I was responsible for the leveldesign aspect of the game which was different from the 2D game we worked on before making it more involved and although giving me more opportunities to design the world. I was although working on the storytelling of the game which was interesting to develop due to the disease we were trying to picture in this game. These roles made me a central piece for the team and furthermore helped me strenghten my skills in leveldesign and storytelling.
