Founded more than 150 years ago, Mercer Fraser Co. is a civil engineering contractor and construction materials producer in Fortuna, California. Over the course of its history, Mercer Fraser Co. has completed several heavy civil engineering projects in California, including road, highway, bridge, and marine construction. It has also played a part in smaller projects for the benefit of residents. In 2020, the company was involved in the renovation of Fortuna Bike Park.

Fortuna Bike Park was opened around 2012 to provide local children a place to ride their bikes for sport and fun. It stayed as a dirt park for a long time, so it could not be used all year round. It could also not accommodate many riders because of size limitations. All that changed in 2020 when it was renovated following support from donors and volunteers. The park was fully paved to allow all-year use and expanded to accommodate riders of various skill levels, including young beginners.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated bike park was held on Oct. 29, 2020. Cameron Mull, the director of Fortuna Parks and Recreation, gave credit to the donors who had volunteered their time and resources to complete the project. He further said that the newly-renovated low maintenance park would provide many years of use for cyclists from across Humboldt County.
